Gujranwala: Gujranwala Development Authority (GDA) Director General (DG) Maqbool Ahmed Majoka has revealed that the authority has served legal notices to the developers of 289 illegal housing schemes in the Gujranwala Division, according to a news source. The DG shared this information during a briefing given to Gujranwala Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghuman on the situation of illegal housing schemes.
During the briefing, the commissioner directed the GDA to launch a crackdown against all illegal housing schemes in the division. The brief was attended by important officials representing the commissioner office, GDA, revenue, and the town planning departments.

Speaking to the attendees, Commissioner Ghuman said that people should avoid buying plots in housing schemes on the basis of their preliminary planning approvals. A society that receives the final approval and NOC from a competent authority is safe for investment, he added.
In order to tackle the situation, commissioner directed sub-registrars concerned to immediately get the sale purchase activity in illegal and/or unapproved housing schemes stopped. He further mentioned that all utility service providers must stop providing their respective services to illegal housings schemes, unless their developers seek the approval from the GDA and other agencies.

As per the information shared by DG Majoka, the GDA has so far issued NOC to 55 housing schemes, while that for 14 projects is underway. He further mentioned that 8 housing schemes have received their preliminary planning approvals from the GDA.
