Islamabad: Notices have been issued to 500 defaulters of Capital Value Tax (CVT) in the federal capital on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat, a news source reported.
The authorities have decided to launch a crackdown against defaulters who haven’t paid the CVT since 2012. They have been instructed to clear their CVT dues within a week. The notices were issued by the area’s tehsildar.

The defaulters had obtained a temporary injunction against the payment of CVT from courts since their cases were pending before the courts. However, now that the cases have been dismissed, they are now being asked to pay the taxes.
Additionally, the defaulters have been warned of action under the Revenue Act in case they fail to clear the dues within the given deadline.
According to sources, these individuals and housing societies owe the local administration tens of millions in unpaid CVT for hundreds of kanals of land.
