Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the officials concerned in a petition regarding the establishment of a bus terminal in the federal capital, a news source reported. Justice Aamer Farooq issued summons for joint secretary interior, secretary Islamabad Transport Authority, and members of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI).
The petition, filed by the Transport Owners and Passengers’ Welfare Association, requested the court to issue directives for the removal of illegal bus stands and other encroachments in Islamabad.
Justice Farooq observed that there was a need for serious efforts on part of the administration to fulfill the transport requirements of the city, which had seen rapid growth due to urbanisation. He then adjourned the hearing till the second week of February.
The court had earlier directed the CDA chairman to submit a report regarding the establishment of a National Bus Terminal (NBT), which was approved by the CDA Board on December 7, 2012.
