Lahore: The foreign office has sent a notification to the Chief Secretary to kick-start the process to convert Lahore’s State Guest House into a 5-star hotel — according to a news source published today (July 15). The decision to convert the building, along with a number of state owned buildings, had been taken in 2018.

The State Guest House was constructed on 16.5 acres of land at Mall Road and is currently being used by the foreign office. Reportedly, PKR 500 million are expended on the upkeep of the building each year. Now it will be converted into a 5-star hotel.
The project will be completed through a public-private partnership. The notification has presented 3 proposals for the construction of the hotel on an area of nearly 44,000 square feet. The hotel will be constructed about 200 feet away from the central building. The central building will also be restored to its original conditions.

The project will be approved by a special committee headed by the Chief Secretary. As per the law, Mall Road is a special institution zone and for that to be converted into a commercial property, special permission from the Lahore Development Authority will be required.
