Lahore: Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Chairman Atif Chaudhry stated that a Norwegian firm has shown interest in setting a waste-to-energy power plant in Lahore, a news source reported on December 7.

LWMC Chairman Atif Chaudhry met a Norwegian delegation to discuss establishing over 40-megawatt (MW) Waste to Energy Power Plant. During the meeting, it was mentioned that the Norwegian firm’s delegation will complete the preliminary survey. Initially, 40 to 45MW of electricity is planned to be produced and the company will be investing USD 300 million dollars.
The news source revealed that 20 million tonnes of waste at the Lakho Der landfill will be utilised to produce electricity. The aim of the waste-to-energy power plant was to provide citizens with a clean environment and better facilities.

Moreover, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi will be briefed about the project in the upcoming meeting. The waste-to-energy project will decrease environmental pollution along with creating 2,000 employment opportunities. The chairman has requested the citizens to adopt a waste segregation practice.
