Islamabad: The Norwegian government has announced its decision to support Pakistan in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s global debt relief initiative, a news source reported. The announcement came after Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi discussed the matter with his Norwegian counterpart on Wednesday.

Qureshi offered his condolences over the deaths in Norway due to the coronavirus pandemic. The minister also discussed the PM Khan’s initiative at length. He emphasised the importance of the initiative for developing countries; stating that the aim of this programme is to sustain existing resources in the fight against COVID-19.
He further said that initiative will allow the developing countries with the requisite fiscal space to get through the economic impact of the coronavirus lockdown.

In response, the Norwegian diplomat thanked FM Qureshi for his words of encouragement and agreed with him on the importance of international coordination in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
