Islamabad: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has been asked to refrain from utilising Rashakai Economic Zone for real estate business and develop the site only for industrial purpose, a news source reported. Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar issued the directives during a meeting held to review progress on Pak-China industrial cooperation.
Planning Secretary Zafar Hasan, CPEC Project Director Hassan Daud, officials of the Board of Investment (BoI), Ministry of Energy and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government attended the meeting.
Highlighting the importance of Special Economic Zones, the minister said that the government was committed to developing industrial parks by utilising local resources.
Pakistani and Chinese officials are scheduled to sign important agreements at the eight meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC), the apex decision-making body on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), on December 20 in Beijing.
Islamabad would also push China to release funds for the construction of Western Route, besides seeking financial assistance for KKH Thakot-Raikot (remaining portion) and upgradation of DI Khan-Zhob (Phase-1) project.
