Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced its decision to cease from giving approvals to developers who seek to build their projects outside the vicinity of the Ring Road, a news source reported. As per officials, the civic agency intends to promote vertical developments and preserve green areas through the implementation of this policy.

To facilitate this measure, LDA’s Metropolitan Wing recently prepared a working paper which will presented during the next meeting of the authority’s governing body for its approval. The agency took the decision with a view to conserve green areas surrounding the city as well as to act in accordance with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s instructions regarding the prevention of urban sprawl.
The new strategy involves confining the development of housing schemes (under LDA’s jurisdiction) to the boundaries of the Lahore Ring Road – to curtail the growth of illegal projects. Moreover, private developers will only be able to secure approvals if they agree to abide by the civic agency’s rules and regulations.

Similarly, the managements of residential projects located beyond the areas specified by the LDA for the development of gated communities will be given four weeks to obtain their approvals. This decision is expected to facilitate the regularisation of 513 illegal housing schemes.
