Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has postponed its anti-encroachment drive for a month, and sought building plans from owners of commercial plazas, a news source reported. The civic body has asked the owners to submit their plans for approval or have their properties demolished.
RDA decided to postpone the anti-encroachment drive after several office-bearers of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) held a meeting with the deputy commissioner and apprised him of concerns of the traders.
Sources close to the development said the scheme would allow RDA to collect fees for approving building plans and impose fines on violators. The owners, on the other hand, would be able to legalise their structures and establishments.

RMC would also announce a similar scheme soon, but it will not approve plans of such commercial plazas that lack parking space and fire safety measures.
The civic bodies would inspect buildings and commercial plazas using all the record at their disposal. Strict action will be taken against structures built on encroached land.
