Karachi: The Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) on Thursday stated that it would not demolish residential buildings with legal records, a news source reported. As per the publication, the CBC survey teams recently identified several illegal structures in various areas situated in its jurisdiction.

CBC has decided not to announce publicly the details of the identified illegal buildings to avert the pressure strategies of the owners and builders of the illegal structures. There have been reports of owners occupying their illegal buildings with fake inhabitants to resist demolition operations. CBC has also decided against facilitating the residents of illegal structures by offering them alternative housing.

Following the building accident in Golimar, CBC accelerated its campaign against illegal structures and demolished a building in Delhi Colony. The cantonment board commenced its demolition campaign at the directives of the apex court and will continue it till the end of March. The CBC has contracted the services of the local police department for this purpose.
