Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal has ordered the National Logistic Cell (NLC) to launch a shuttle cargo service between Karachi and Lahore, news sources reported on September 6. The service will provide affordable cargo services to merchants and businesses in both metropolises.

Reportedly, the minister issued the instruction during the 66th meeting of the National Logistics Board (NLB) on Friday (September 1). The minister asked the NLC to prepare a feasibility report on the project and the intended timeline for the proposed initiative. The minister said that the shuttle service will serve as an economical alternative to the private cargo services, which are driving the prices of commodities up.

On this occasion, the minister was informed by the NLC management that at present, the total fleet of the NLC stands at 900 cargo vehicles, while the organization is planning to add 200 more to bring the total to 1,100 vehicles by the end of the fiscal year (FY) 2022-23.

It is important to mention that NLC is one of the largest state-owned cargo and transportation services in the country that offers services across the spectrum.
