Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has closed off the Defence Road and handed the contract to National Logistics Cell (NLC) for its expansion and rehabilitation, news sources reported. The widening of the 5.6-kilometre long Defense road is part of the Shahkam Chowk flyover project being completed by NLC.

In addition, the LDA has completed 90 piling foundations, with 40 of these foundations still to be built pending land acquisition. The commissioner has also implemented Section 6 of the Land Acquisition Act 1862 to purchase neighbouring land for development purposes. Section 6 is projected to provide the government with a total of 62 kanal land for development.

The Shahkam flyover project was inaugurated in August 2021, by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar and is scheduled to be completed in March 2022. The project includes the construction of a flyover that will connect Canal Road (from Thokar Niaz Baig to Shahkam Chowk), and other roads linking to the posh residential areas of Bahria Town, Mohlanwal Stop (Multan Road), and New Defence. The project also includes the construction of four bridges on the drain Canal for better connectivity.
