Islamabad: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday approved the establishment of an international payment gateway facility through which the National Information Technology Board (NITB) would monitor remittance levels, a news source reported.

The federal cabinet also received a briefing on this matter during a performance review of the NITB. Officials highlighted the challenge of changing the mind set in order to adopt e-governance. They added that NITB was only an enabler in this regard, and it was the duty of the ministries and divisions to embrace the new processes and technologies.

Answering a query, the officials concerned stated that following the SBP’s approval for the international payment gateway, NITB had initiated work on the project. The cabinet has also formed a committee to review the financial and legal issues pertaining to the tasks assigned to NITB. It would assist the board by providing recommendations on the way forward with these issues.
