Islamabad: Nine industrial zones have been established under Pakistan Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (PIEDMC), according to a news source.
The PIEDMC Chairman Abdul Basit has said that in these industrial zones, 950 industrial units have begun production, while 353 are under construction. He said that due to the establishment of industrial zones, 840,000 direct and 1.6 million indirect jobs have been created. The industrial zones have received PKR 50 billion local investment and USD 1 billion foreign investment. According to Basit, PIEDMC is adding PKR 3 billion to the national exchequer each year in terms of taxes.
He also said that measures are being taken to establish special economic zones in Rahim Yar Khan and Bhalwal.
