Multan: The Ministry of Communications has decided to upgrade the Shikarpur-Rajanpur section of the Indus Highway N-55 — with the project expected to be completed by the National Highway Authority (NHA) over a period of 3 years, a news source reported today (July 15).

This is the first phase of the project and will involve upgrading 221 kilometres out of 551 kilometres of the Indus Highway N-55. It has been titled Package 1 and is estimated to cost USD 250 million.
Package 2 will involve the upgradation of a 121 kilometre strip of the Rajanpur-DG Khan Road, while Package 3 will upgrade a 208 kilometre strip between DG Khan and DI Khan. Applications have been invited from supervisory firms for the upgrade work on all three packages.

The PC-1 for Package 1 has also been sent to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval. The work on the project is expected to begin in about 6 months.
