Islamabad: The National Highway Authority has proposed to launch eight road infrastructure projects under built, operate and transfer (BOT) basis during the next five years, reported a news source. For this purpose, the Government of Pakistan will earmark PKR 60 billion in budget 2019-20.

More prominent of these projects include
- Expansion of Karachi Northern Bypass from two lanes to six lanes
- Expansion of Swat Expressway from Chakdara to Bagh Dheri
- Making Kharian to Rawalpindi Motorway a dual carriageway

According to the details, the NHA has proposed allocation of PKR 1.35 billion for expansion of Karachi Northern Bypass and PKR 56 billion for Swat Expressway. The amount proposed for converting Kharian to Rawalpindi Motorway into a dual carriageway is PKR 50.7 million.
