Islamabad: The National Highways Authority (NHA) is planning to plant saplings along the National Highway (N-5) as part of the ‘Apni Shahrah Project’, according to a news source. The authority will plant as many as 20,000 saplings along a 40-km-long stretch of the highway.
This decision was taken after the NHA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Member of National Assembly (MNA) Asma Qadeer on Wednesday at its headquarters.
This initiative comes as part of the government’s Clean and Green Pakistan programme; which the NHA further plans to follow through on by planting saplings along its various highways and motorway networks.
Reportedly, 10,000 saplings each will be planted along a 20-km N-5 stretch from Gujrat to Kharian, and along another stretch of similar length from Missa Kaswal to the Mandra Toll Plaza.
After a completion time of one year, and three years of maintenance, full control of the road’s medians will be handed over to the NHA. The body will then monitor the project’s progress on a regular basis.
