Under the project, the federal government will allocate funds for the 184-kilometre-long road project connecting Ghulam Khan in North Waziristan with the said motorway section under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2022-23 through a separate head/allocation. The authority has set August 10 as the deadline for submitting proposals, while a pre-proposal meeting will be convened on July 19 at the NHA headquarters in Islamabad.
The procurement will be conducted using the single-stage-two-envelopes process. The project, when completed, will connect the Waziristan and CPEC Motorway 14 routes with the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Moreover, Ghulam Khan is the third most significant border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan, after Torkham and Chaman. The Esa Khel Interchange is located on M-14 in the Punjab district of Mianwali, near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) district of Lakki Marwat. The Bannu district of KP is located between Mianwali and Ghulam Khan.
