Lahore: The National Highway Authority (NHA) on Wednesday invited bids for the dualisation of the Zhob-Quetta section of the Dera Ismail (DI) Khan-Quetta Highway (N-50), a news source reported. The DI Khan-Quetta Highway forms part of the western route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

In this regard, the NHA has invited bids from eligible firms registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). The bids pertain for work on the dualisation of five packages of the N-50. These include the following packages:
- 65-kilometre (km) long Zhob-Tangi
- 65-km long Tangi-Qila Saifullah
- 50-km long Qila Saifullah-Nasai
- 65-km long Nasai-Khanozai
- 53-km long Khanozai-Kuchlak (Quetta)
According to details, NHA requires the firms to submit their bids in sealed envelopes as per instructions contained in the bidding documents on or before June 15. An NHA official also revealed that following its dualisation, the 298-km long Zhob-Quetta section of the N-50 would connect the far-flung areas of Balochistan to other parts of the country.

The official added that this measure would help establish new industrial zones and expedite the process of development in Balochistan. He further said that the dualisation of this section of the highway would also connect DI Khan and tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
