Islamabad: National Highway Authority (NHA) has generated PKR 3.72 billion in the first 100 days of the government, a news report quoted Minister of State for Communications Murad Saeed. He said the authority had accomplished the task by taking austerity measures, auctioning vehicles and retrieving encroached land.
Sharing the figures of achievement, the minister said NHA generated PKR 1,412 million in revenue through good governance, PKR 1,596 million from the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, PKR 208.8 million by auctioning government vehicles, PKR 36.1 million by reducing expenditures, and PKR 468.2 million in audit.
He said good governance included establishment of monitoring and elevation cell, mechanism of internal audit, improvement of toll plazas and public facilities in service areas, inauguration of national road safety strategy and road safety education.
The authority, he said, had introduced facilities such as e-tendering, e-bidding and e-billing. He added that special audit of plans from the Auditor General of Pakistan as well as inquiry of land for the National Highway Foundation would ensure transparency in award of projects.
The minister said new road projects would be awarded on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis and Toll Operate Transfer (TOT) model under which the NHA would not need to depend on government funds.
