Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has developed a proposal to dualise the Karakoram Highway (N-35) from the Hazara Motorway (E-35) at Jari Kas Interchange to Haripur City, news sources reported on April 25.

The Project Concept-II (PC-II) of the project has already been presented to the Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) for approval. According to reports, the project’s feasibility study would be completed following the approval of the project’s PC-II by DDWP. The feasibility study will be carried out after engaging firms, while the whole exercise will complete in six months.
Following the feasibility study, the NHA will submit the final report, design revisions and updates to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (ECNEC) for final approval. The government will allocate funds for the project under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in the next stage.

It is vital to remember that the N35, or Karakoram Highway, is the crucial link between Pakistan and China and was built as part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The multibillion-rupee project that connects the city’s north with central and southern Pakistan is also a major trading route for locals.
