Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has decided to dualise National Highway 35 (Hassanabdal-Khunjrab) (N-35) from Jari Kas Interchange to Haripur City, news sources reported on May 28. The project will resolve the traffic congestion problem and slow movement of freight-carrying trailers in the section.

According to NHA sources, the Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) is now reviewing Project Concept-II (PC-II) for a feasibility study and detailed design for dualisation and rehabilitation of the existing carriageway from Hassanabdal to Mansehra (N-35). Once accepted, a consultant will be hired to perform the feasibility study over a five to six-month timeframe.
The final feasibility study, together with the PC-1, will be delivered to the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (ECNEC) and the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for approval. After receiving clearance from the respective forums, the project procurement and tendering will begin.

It is important to note that N-35 is also part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and part of the Karakoram Highway. It is an important link that connects China with Pakistan through the Khunjerab pass.
