Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has awarded the contracts for the construction of a 168-kilometre-long road section of the M-8 Motorway between Awaran and Naal (near Khuzdar), news sources reported. The PKR 8.08 billion contract was granted to a joint venture (JV) between Habib Construction Services and Matracon Pakistan.

According to reports, the M-8 Motorway runs from Ratodero in Sindh to the Gwadar Port, passing via Khuzdar, Awaran, Hoshab, and Turbat in Balochistan. According to NHA, after its completion, M-8 will connect Islamabad, Peshawar, and Lahore to the Gwadar Port via the shortest route. It will also mark the construction of the first access-controlled link between the Gwadar Port and the country’s northern regions.

The project is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. The total M-8 has been divided into several sections, with the 250-kilometre Ratodero-Khuzdar and 193-kilometre Gwadar-Hohab sections of the M-8 Motorway operational. Additionally, the development work on the 146-kilometre-long Hoshab-Awaran section is also underway at a cost of PKR 9.12 billion
