Lahore: Deliberation on the new structure for local bodies has been completed and it has been approved by the senior provincial minister Abdul Aleem Khan, a news source reported. The suggestions have been sent to the Prime Minister for final approval.
Speaking on the matter, Abdul Aleem Khan stated that mayors and deputy mayors will be directly elected and in villages, neighbourhood councils will be formed and the top 3 contestants on non-party basis will be elected into the council. Every council will also have 3 special seats for youth, women, and minorities.
Khan also said that for the first time, Punjab is going to provide a majority of its development funds to local government representatives.
