Faisalabad: The Punjab government has communicated rates for new bricks in the province, according to a news source. The provincial executive has announced the prices in the wake of the ban placed on kilns in a bid to curb air pollution and smog levels – as well as to keep over-pricing under check.

As per officials, the price set for ‘awwal category’ brick amounts to PKR 6,800/1,000 bricks, while that for secondary category is PKR 5,300 per 1,000 bricks. Further, the provincial government has directed the deputy commissioners to notify the implementation of the new rates.

It has also instructed kiln owners to display the rate list at their kilns. Those failing to do so will face legal actions.
The ban on brick kilns during the winter season causes certain price hike in prices, which in turns accounts for a rise in construction cost. Currently, the government has placed bans on kilns in 18 districts of the province.

The new rates specified for bricks are meant to facilitate people and keep kiln owners from over-pricing their products.
