Islamabad: The federal government is devising a policy framework under which it hopes to check the issuance of loans to fake farmers – a news source reported.
Under this proposed mechanism, the government will provide loans to individuals found genuinely associated with farming activities. Farmers residing in all four provinces, as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), will be offered the financial assistance.

Specifically, only those individuals registered in the books of their respective land records authorities will be provided loans. This new system is aimed at tackling frauds in agriculture loan schemes.
It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) completely digitised its record in December last year.

In a similar vein, the Sindh Board of Revenue will compile its complete electronic record by June. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa board by September. And the revenue authorities of Balochistan, AJK and GB by March 2020.
Farmers seeking loans will have to approach the financial institution concerned, and inform the officials present about their land. The bank management will check the individual farmer’s record availability with the land record authority concerned.

This financial assistance initiative is being introduced in collaboration with the World Bank.
