Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi has sought the establishment of a new mechanism to facilitate the development of Pakistan’s renewable energy sector. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Pakistan Renewable Energy Summit 2019, he emphasised utilisation of solar resources to meet the increasing energy needs of the nation.

President Alvi said that Pakistan was an emerging market with regard to renewable energy. He added that the country had a significant potential for growing exponentially in the years to come. He stressed that they needed to make renewable energy more affordable, reliable and easier for transmission. He said that for this purpose, they needed to integrate the industry’s broadest portfolios of renewable technologies.
The president revealed that by 2025, renewable resources would have the potential of generating 25% of Pakistan’s energy requirements. He added that they needed to explore more efficient, cleaner, and economically feasible power generation sources. This included hydel, solar energy, and wind, he said.

President Alvi opined that they should keep a balance in the utilisation of energy resources. He added that the country was planning to harness the renewable energy potential for supplementing its various initiatives. He said that they planned to increase renewable power’s share in the total energy mix to 30% of the installed capacity by 2030.
