Lahore: The Punjab senior minister Aleem Khan has said that the new local government system will be two-tiered, a news source reported. It will be able to function with financial and administrative autonomy at the grassroots level. He also said that 30% of Punjab’s Annual Development Programme (ADP) budget will go to local governments.

Khan did not give any date for the finalisation of the new local government law. He was speaking at a news conference, held after an inter-provincial meeting on local government departments, at the Chief Minister Secretariat.
With the ADP provision given to local governments, development work will begin in 25,000 villages simultaneously.
On a separate matter, he said that the Punjab government is committed to installing six waste-to-energy plants. One plant will also be built in Peshawar, and funded by the K-P government.
