Lahore: The newly proposed proposed local government law will empower minorities to elect their own heads and representatives to of their respective local bodies, a news source reported.

Punjab Minister for Law and Local Government Basharat Raja recently expressed his views on the matter. He was talking to reporters at the Punjab Assembly on Saturday.
He said that the government lawmakers would present the Local Government Bill-2019, along with and four other bills, during the upcoming session of the Punjab Assembly. After the passage of the Local Government Bill-2019, the Punjab Local Government Act of 2013 will cease to remain in effect.
He further stated informed that the deputy commissioners (DC) would not interfere in the workings matters of the new local bodies. He added that the status of the police would stay the same. Similarly, the new law would empower local bodies to supervise the education and health sectors.

Moreover, the executive will provide funds worth PKR 40 billion to the local bodies. In response, the officials concerned will identify and execute their own development projects.
