Islamabad: For the construction of Gwadar’s new international airport, which falls under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), site investigation process has begun, according to a news source. The federal government has instructed China Airport Construction Group Corporation (CACGC) – the company engaged for the project – to complete site investigation by February 2018 and the project design by April of the same year.
According to initial estimates, the project is likely to cost USD 260 million and it will be completed in three years. The airport will eventually facilitate one million travellers.
At the moment, the CACGC is carrying out soil testing on the site, after which, work will begin on the airport’s design. The final cost estimates for the project will be made once airport design gets finalised in April. The foundation stone for the project will also be laid in April.
The Government of Pakistan has, reportedly, instructed CACGC to speed up the work on Gwadar’s new international airport.
