Karachi: Deputy Commissioner and South District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Administrator Irshad Ali has announced the government’s decision to launch a new Food Street this weekend, according to a news report published on January 7.

From January 10 onwards, the iconic Burns Road Food Street in Karachi will be designated for pedestrians to enjoy famous dishes of the ‘City of Lights’. This new attraction will begin at Fresco Chowk and will run all the way to Fatima Jinnah Women’s College. After 7 pm each night, the Shahrah-e-Liaquat – from Fresco to Court Road – will be blocked for traffic, as per the instructions of DMC South. The visitors of the food street will be offered valet parking facility.

As an alternate route, vehicles coming from Araam Bagh to Fresco will be shifted towards MA Jinnah Road and People’s Square. It was also reported that emergency exits have also been planned for the Burns Strreet and that it aims to provide a ‘clean and hygienic environment and exemplary services as priority for all citizens’.
