Islamabad: Chinese Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren has said four corridors are being added to the flagship China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC), news sources reported on November 16.

The new corridors will include digital, industrial, ecological, and health corridors based on cooperation between the two countries. He stated that the deal was achieved during Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China. Shiren stated that the initiative will benefit the Pakistani government and its citizens by improving the socioeconomic conditions of the country. He also noted that the development work under CPEC Phase 1 is nearly complete, with the government currently working on Phase 2, which is about improving the country’s industrial foundation.

It should be noted that CPEC is a USD 64 billion initiative including mutual collaboration between Pakistan and China. This also covers long-term infrastructure, energy, and industrial development initiatives, such as the creation of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
