Lahore: Commissioner retired Captain Muhammad Usman on Thursday (December 23) imposed new conditions to acquire the issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) for commercial buildings in the Lahore division, according to news sources.

As per the details, the conditions include making the rooftop area 70% green and installation of electric vehicle (EV) charger facility in the parking. For obtaining NOC, it is now made mandatory for petrol filling stations to have a portion to install an electric charging facility.
Some of the other conditions that were imposed includes:
- Compliance of Punjab Environmental Quality Standards (PEQS) and Rules and Regulations devised under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act 1997 (Amended)
- Adherence to mitigation measures to minimise any negative impacts on groundwater, air, oil, and biological resources of the project area
- Monitoring during the entire period of the project activities and submission of monthly monitoring reports to the Environment Protection Agency (EPA)
- Maintenance of record for verification of auditable adopted measures
Moreover, the document stated that untreated wastewater must not be discharged into the surface water body. The buildings must have a proper treatment facility for recycling and conservation of water, rainwater harvesting or storage arrangement, and separate lines for grey water and sewerage. Also, the buildings should have eco-friendly designs and adopt energy-efficient practices.

Additionally, the owners or developers should take measures to conserve water resources and biodiversity, have proper firefighting arrangements along with emergency exits, and ensure the provision of strict health and safety measures for the protection of works.
