Mansehra: The affectees of the 2005 earthquake have turned down the government’s offer of payment of plots at the New Balakot City housing project and have instead demanded an early plot allotment in the same project, according to a media report published on August 15.

Tahir Khan, the president of the association representing the affectees said that the survivors of the earthquake wanted plots as per the ruling of the Supreme Court (SC) instead of money. An office-bearer of the association of Red Zone Dwellers, Muhammad Maroof stated that in January 2019, SC asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and federal governments to develop New Balakot City within one and a half years and allocate plots to the families as soon as possible.

Moreover, ex-Senator Abdul Qayyum Awan mentioned that he will take the issue of early plot allotment to the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority.
