Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has rejected a request by K-Electric to increase a seven-year tariff so that additional investment into the private sector can be facilitated, according to a news report. It did, however, give a five-paisa per unit margin to deal with exchange loss.
K-electric has been further told to stop collecting charges for bills from consumers. Furthermore, it is to pay interest on any and all security deposits. And finally, it has been asked to stop the practice of charging rent to consumers who have paid for the cost of the metre they are using.
The multi-year tariff has been changed to Rs. 12.82 from Rs. 12.77. K-Electric had originally asked for a hike of Rs. 3 per unit, however, it seems that they will have to make do with just a five-paisa increase instead.
