Islamabad: The transmission line for Nelum-Jhelum Project has been completed. The project will launch in March and is expected to produce much cheaper electricity. The capacity of the plant is 969 MW, for which work to dig 68 kilometre wide tunnels has been completed.
Work on this project started in 2002, and has only now been able to complete. The project’s PC-1 cost PKR 74 billion. Until now, more than PKR 514 billion has been spent on this project. In a few days, the plant will be operational to produce electricity. The second unit will be operational in April 2018, the third will be operational in May 2018, whereas the fourth unit will start working later this year. The project is to help the economy save PKR 50 billion annually.
