Islamabad: The National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) has approved the development of 10 risk-mitigation projects worth PKR 4.9 billion, a news source reported. As per officials, these initiatives will be developed with an aim to protect vulnerable communities against the impacts of natural calamities.
The NDRMF board met on Monday with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and concerned government officials in Islamabad to review the proposals.

The approved projects include Tsunami and Earthquake Early Warning Systems, Weather Radar System, Landslide Control Management, Drought Mitigation, Flood Protection Works, Emergency Response Services, and Community-based Disaster Risk Management. The total cost of all these has been estimated at PKR 4.925 billion, of which 73% will be funded by the NDRMF through a grant and the remaining will be financed by the respective government and nongovernment departments.

The disaster management schemes are expected to be implemented by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh, the provincial irrigation departments, Rescue 1122 Gilgit-Baltistan, the Communication and Works Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, the Muslim Aid Pakistan, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
