Islamabad: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal on Tuesday shared the details regarding the country’s various COVID-19 medical facilities, a news source reported.

As per the publication, he revealed that the country had 4,200 ventilators, out of which 109 had been reserved for the novel coronavirus patients only. He added that the NDMA had also stored 500 ventilators in a warehouse as a strategic reserve, and that they would be disbursed to the provinces according to their emergency needs.

Chairman Afzal informed that the relief organization had made 83 testing laboratories operational for conducting coronavirus tests. He said that the authority had equipped the country with all the requisite medical facilities. He added that the government was not only procuring ventilators but was also planning to initiate an online training program for the country’s doctors to learn how to operate them.

The NDMA chairman said that despite the shortage of ventilators in the international market, Pakistan did not face the same issues anymore. He said that the country would receive about 700 more ventilators in June. He added that the NDMA was also pursuing transparency in the purchases of medical supplies as per the advisories of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
