Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has begun providing anti-locust medicines and sprayers to provinces for combating locusts in the affected areas, a news source reported.

An NDMA spokesperson recently stated that 36 spraying machines had been dispatched to Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh. The spokesperson further informed that six sprayers were sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and eight to the Department of Plants Protection (DPP).

The spokesperson said that the provinces had been supplied with 350,000 litres of anti-locusts medicine. He said that Balochistan was supplied with 106,200 litres, DPP with 40,000 litres, Punjab with 79,800 litres, and Sindh with 124,000 litres.

Previously, Turkey leased out a spray aircraft to Pakistan for six months, which will be used to combat locust attacks in affected areas of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. The desert locusts have been entering Pakistan for the last few months from Iran and ravaging crops in Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab.
