Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday continued its aerial spray drive in various parts of the country to deal with locusts attack, a news source reported. Moreover, it completed a survey of 65,000-hectare area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 87,000 of Punjab, 125,000 of Balochistan, and 83,000 of Sindh province in 24 hours.

An NDMA spokesperson stated that both ground and aerial spray of various areas were underway to combat the locusts’ attack. He said that the authority had sprayed 1,900 hectares of Punjab, 5,100 of Balochistan, 531 of Sindh, and 700 hectares of KP. He added that the locusts’ attack hit 54 districts across the country, which include 10 districts of KP, 28 districts of Balochistan, 5 of Sindh, and 11 of Punjab.

Previously, Turkey leased out a spray plan to Pakistan for six months to assist the country in its fight against locust attacks. Moreover, China sent Pakistan 300,000 litres of pesticides and 50 pest-control equipment to strengthen its capacity to combat locusts.
