Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning & Development Asad Umar on Wednesday stated that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would begin cleaning the riverbeds and nullahs in Karachi from September onward, a news source reported.

Umar took to Twitter stating that NDMA would finish cleaning the nullahs in Karachi in one year. He added that he would approve soon approve the plan, which would solve the problem of the city becoming submerged in water during heavy rains. The minister highlighted that Karachi was the largest tax-paying city of the country and deserved better than the issues it was currently facing.

Recently, the federal and Sindh governments had also formed a joint committee that would work on six significant issues for developing Karachi. These included work on the sewerage system, solid waste disposal, roads infrastructure, removal of encroachments, water, and transport. The committee consists of six members, who would ensure the timely completing of all ongoing development projects of the city within these categories.
