Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a new low-cost housing scheme for underprivileged tribesmen under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), according to media reports.
Provincial Minister for Housing Dr. Amjad Ali stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has asked the Deputy Commissioners of all seven tribal districts in the merged areas to help the government identify state-owned lands for the housing scheme.

He added that the government will adopt a land-sharing formula, in which a tribesman who provides 4 Kanal non-productive land for the scheme will be compensated with 1 Kanal plot. Besides this, they can even sell their land to the government according to the Revenue Department and District administration’s rate. The new housing scheme will be developed in Khyber, Waziristan, Parachinar Kurram, and Bajaur districts.
While sharing details about other housing projects, he said that the 10,000 Kanal Jalozai Housing Project in Nowshera is 95% complete. The Provincial Housing Authority opened the application process for the allocation of residential plots in Phase-III through a lucky draw.
Another Jalozai housing project under NPHP that has been started is 2,400 low-cost flats. The flats are for laborers, shelterless, and less fortunate people and a subsidy of PKR 0.3 million will be given. While the remaining amount will be paid by beneficiaries through easy installments.
In the Jalozai Housing Scheme, a 2% quota is allotted for journalists, while 10% of Hangul Township and 40 Kanal land in the Dungram Swat project are reserved for the construction of houses for journalists. Likewise, 10% is set aside for overseas Pakistanis, 2 % for people with special needs, and a special quota for widows.
KP government has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to provide a low-interest rate house finance facility. Also, the government has asked 12 other banks to extend similar facilities.

Moreover, another low-cost housing scheme will be developed on 10,000 Kanal land in Surizai Peshawar. The minister also said that construction work on Hangu Township will commence next month.
He also confirmed that work on Mulazai Housing Program in Peshawar and the Jarma Housing project in Kohat is near completion. The construction work on Havailan Housing Project in Abbottabad has been expedited to meet the deadline.
