Islamabad: On Monday 24, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib announced that the members of journalist community previously excluded from government housing scheme will be made part of Naya Pakistan Housing Project. The minister shared the news while addressing a press conference at the National Press Club.
Addressing the media, the minister said that while 68% of the population in Punjab represents the working class, only 1% of them are homeowners. Banks are providing low interest rate home loans to working class with better financial condition that can be paid back in up to 20 years.

He reiterated the fact that the journalists constitute the group that is often neglected despite the fact that they play an important role in keeping the government in check, raise the voice for the oppressed, and speaks up on national security issues. The security of media workers is necessary and through this scheme, the government will ensure it. The project will come into effect in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and will be subsequently extended to other cities.
The minister also stated, currently, they are working on resolving the problems related to the salaries of media workers and journalists.
