Islamabad: Pakistan’s first National Water Policy (NWP) will be tabled before the Council of Common Interests (CCI) in a meeting on March 21, according to a news report. The Cabinet has given the approval for this presentation.
The meeting of CCI will be headed by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the final draft of the policy prepared by Planning Commission will be tabled before the meeting for approval. Provincial chief ministers have also been invited to the meeting set to take place tomorrow.
The policy aims to resolve issues related to water storage capacity, conservation, research and development, capacity building for existing administrative departments, allocation of financial resources and establishment of the institutional setup at provincial levels.
If NWP is approved by CCI, the provinces will work out their own water implementation policies as well.
