Islamabad: The national grid is soon to obtain at least 12,464 additional Megawatts (MW) of electricity from 25 projects — in various developmental stages — initiated by Independent Power Producers (IPPs), according to news sources.

The concerned officials said that the projects were being facilitated by the Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) and will be functionalised anywhere between 2020-28 in various gradual stages.
As per the details, the 1,263-megawatts (MW) Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) plant – being set up near Trimmu Barrage in Jhang – will become operational in the ongoing year. Moreover, five additional projects with a combined capacity of generating 2,047 megawatts (including two 330-MW Thar coal power plants, 660MW Thar coal power plant, 7.08MW Riali-II hydropower project and 720MW Karot hydropower project) will become functional in 2021.

Furthermore, four power projects with an accumulative generation capacity of 2,160 MW will be ready by 2022, and 1,980MW will be added to the national grid through the IPPs in 2023. Similarly, 2,124MW, 1,172MW and 1,710MW will be added to the same in 2024, 2026 and 2028 respectively.
