Sources revealed that the plan for the modernisation of the agriculture sector focuses on issues that impede the country’s agricultural output. These include:
- Locust control
- Exchange of agriculture experts
- Germ plasma resource exchange
- Pest & disease control satellite station
- Aqua culture & shrimp farming
- Fisheries
- Post-harvest food processing technologies
Sharing a two-year performance report, the government officials concerned revealed that work had been initiated on the Kachhi Canal Phase II project. They added that the second phase of the project would assist in irrigating 216,000 acres of land. They also highlighted that the project had the capacity to turn large tracts of land in Balochistan into a food basket. This would be a source for food for not only the people of the province, but for the rest of the country as well, they said.
