According to NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik, the ‘Pak Identity’ mobile app was launched to facilitate NIC applicants through an online portal. The app can be downloaded on both iOS and Android smartphones.
As per the details, the applicants will not have to visit the embassy or NADRA office as the app will be used for facial recognition, biometric fingerprints, and scanning documents in order to process a person’s ID card through smartphones.
He went on to say that with the launch of this app, Pakistan has become the first country to implement contactless biometric acquisition and verification through smartphone cameras. Sharing the details of the digital wallet, the NADRA Chairman disclosed that it will be a unique digital ID. It is an innovation that will revolutionise the national ID eco-system in the country. The app will ensure public convenience and end the conventional physical ID.
The digital dividends of such technology innovation will yield positive results in contactless banking, ease of doing business, and financial inclusion and e-governance initiatives by offering remote identification and e-KYC (Electronic know your customer).
