Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recently recovered PKR 1.95 billion from the administration of an illegal housing scheme in Rawalpindi, a news source reported. As per details, the anti-corruption watchdog retrieved the amount during its ongoing investigation into the financial malpractices allegedly committed by the management of the National House Buildings & Roads Development Corporation.

As per reports, the company – through fake advertisements – had lured the public into making investments in its housing projects. So far, NAB has registered 9,000 claims detailing defraud against the citizens affected. The organisation accused recently confessed to the charges and submitted a plea bargain against a liability of PKR 1.95 billion.
Earlier this month, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) had sealed five illegal housing societies. It had also issued an advisory for the citizens to invest in housing schemes approved by the authority – with a list of the RDA-approved housing projects 2019 available on the authority’s website for the convenience of the public.

Meanwhile, NAB Rawalpindi Director General (DG) Naeem Mangi said that the authority would continue to cleanse the society of corrupt elements. While NAB will make all-out efforts to recover the looted money, it should discourage the citizens against making investments in unauthorised housing schemes, he added.
