Rawalpindi: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi, through a notification in a national publication on Saturday (August 15), cautioned potential buyers against investing in illegal housing schemes located within the city limits.

Additionally, the notification contained a number of suggested measures that the buyers could undertake in order to avoid buying properties in illegal societies. These were as follows:
- The company or the builders are registered with the relevant institute.
- The housing scheme has a no-objection certificate from the relevant authority.
- Find out the exact amount payable after including the development charges.
- Find out from the revenue department if the land of the housing scheme has been registered under the name of the developers/owners.
- Check the housing scheme map for amenity plots (including those for schools, colleges or hospitals) and their location on-ground.
- Confirm with the utility providers whether they will provide all the requisite utility connections.
- Make payments through cheque.
- Record the names and the official address of the societies and housing schemes.
- File complaints with the authorities concerned in case of fraud or other issues.

The NAB further warned all advertisement agencies to check the necessary details of housing schemes before advertising for them. In case of non-compliance, the agencies could be faced with legal action along with the owners of the illegal housing schemes.
