Lahore: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has stated that compensating the victims of housing society scams is a priority, a news source reported. Iqbal made this announcement as he addressed the affectees of one such housing scheme recently.

A ceremony for distribution of the compensation was held at NAB’s provincial headquarters in Thokar Niaz Baig. The chairman distributed PKR 730 million among the affectees. He said that private housing schemes lure the public through ads, and many of them have not even acquired land. He added that many of them have not obtained a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department concerned.
Iqbal stressed that such housing projects only exist on paper, and scam innocent people. He assured the affectees that NAB has been making hard efforts to recover the money looted from them.

During the tenure of Iqbal (since 2018), NAB has distributed a sum of PKR 6.72 billion among the victims of housing scams. In terms of indirect recoveries, NAB has compensated the affectees through total of PKR 5.3 billion. Also, the bureau has arrested 215 suspects in these cases.
